About me

The Scholarship

Very, very late in December I was standing in the Orlando airport, a phone to my ear, hyperventilating.  My friends who were there with me thought someone in my family had died.  The various travelers who were waiting for planes eyed me up curiously.  What was going on?  Well, I had just found out I was chosen for the 2011 Davies-Jackson Scholarship.  What is that? you ask.

Every year, the very wonderful, very mysterious donor donates a bunch of money so that a poor American student can go to grad school at St. John's College at Cambridge in England.  Not only does he cover tuition, housing, and travel to and from England, but he also covers general living expenses, and gives you money to travel!  And this year I was the extremely lucky, extremely blessed recipient of this scholarship.

So what does this mean?  In late September I will be moving to Cambridge, England (it's about a 50 minute ride from London) and getting a degree in English literature from St. John's College.  Cambridge is composed of 31 colleges; St. John's is one of the largest.

And that's that.  I will be posting more details and updates as they come.  Once I move to Cambridge in the fall, I will definitely post a lot more interesting stories/photos (these here are just some off the web, not my own).  At this point in time, all I can say is: THANK YOU MYSTERIOUS DONOR!
